My name is Lori Hoxie. I was born & raised on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. My husband Tom & I moved to the Stanwood Camano area 13 years ago. We will celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary in April 2008! We have two wonderful keiki (children) our daughter Alyssa who also joins me in the love of hula & is a big part of our Hawaiian Dance Studio. Our young son, Keoni enjoys dirtbikes & the art of karate. We surround ourselves around our culture, family, new & old friends. I started my passion for hula at the age of 7. I turned professional at the age of 16 & I also have a teaching certificate. I've been exposed to many different Polynesian cultures such as Samoan,Tahitian & Maori. Over the past three & a half years, I have been a co-instructor in the Stanwood area & just recently finished teaching private hula lessons at the Port Susan Athletic Health Club & The Stanwood Sports Club.
Awards & Personal Achievements
My last Kumu Hula in Hawaii was Olga Kalama. Olga is a Hawaiian history Professor at the University of Hawaii. My recent Kumu is MaryLou Kaohilani Loutzenhiser-also a Kumu Hula at our Hawaiian School of dance. She took me to Canada for a competition where we placed 1st in our divison! Two years ago I had the priveledge to perform with Hawaii's very own Slack Key Masters Cyril Pahinui & Dennis Kamakahi.
Over the past 30 years of dancing, I've taken many hula workshops in Hawaii,Washington and Canada. Currently I am continuing my education in the Polynesian Culture.
I look foward to sharing my rewarding & inspiring Hawaiian Culture with you.
Mahalo & Aloha,
