*Family Bio*

My name is Lori Hoxie.  I was born & raised on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu.  My husband Tom & I moved to the Stanwood Camano area 16 years ago.  We will celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary in April. We have very active & wonderful keiki (children).

Our daughter Alyssa, who also joins me in the studio & in the love of hula! Currently, she's been involved in Competitive Cheer for a few years & loves it!    She also plays for the Port Susan Volleyball team.  - Go KNIGHTS!

Our young son, Keoni enjoys dirtbikes, sports & karate. He is a football player on the little league Stanwood Spartan Football team and basketball team.

We surround ourselves around our culture, family, new & old friends. I started my passion for hula at the age of 7.  I turned professional at the age of 16 & I also have a teaching certificate. I've been exposed to many different Polynesian cultures such as Samoan,Tahitian & Maori.  Over the past three & a half years, I have been a co-instructor in the Stanwood area & just recently finished teaching private hula lessons at the Port Susan Athletic Health Club & The Stanwood Sports Club.

  ~Awards & Personal Achievements~

My last Kumu Hula in Hawaii was Olga Kalama.  Olga is a Hawaiian history Professor at the University of Hawaii.  My recent Kumu is MaryLou Kaohilani Loutzenhiser-also a Kumu Hula at our Hawaiian School of dance.  She took me to Canada for a competition where we placed 1st in our divison!  Two years ago I had the priveledge to perform with Hawaii's very own Slack Key Masters Cyril Pahinui & Dennis Kamakahi.

Over the past 30+ years of dancing, I've taken many hula workshops in Hawaii,Washington and Canada. Currently I am continuing my education in the Polynesian Culture.

I look foward to sharing my rewarding & inspiring Hawaiian Culture with you.

Mahalo & Aloha,

Lori Poha'nani Hokulani Hoxie
